Promoting Hatred:
The
Systematic use of Lies in the Palestinian Media

Introduction
This report surveys the systematic use of lies and distortions in
the Palestinian media, as tools to encourage hatred towards Jews and
Israel. These distortions are part of an information program promoting
the message that Israel has no right to live as a nation in the Land
of Israel. The quotes are from the official Palestinian Authority
(PA) daily, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, PA TV, or PA officials quoted in other
sources.
Lies and distortions depicting
loathsome Jewish-Israeli behavior and character traits are published
and televised regularly. In educational programs and in articles,
the PA media erases Jewish history in Israel, as part of an active
program to negate the rights of the Jewish nation to the Land of Israel,
while at the same time inventing an ancient Palestinian-Arab history.
Based on these fabrications, the PA teaches its people that they have
the exclusive historical right to the land. As the head of the Department
of History in a PA College, Dr. Yussef Alzamali, recently explained:
“Alzamali
called on all universities and colleges to be active in the writing
of the history of Palestine, and to guard it, and not to enable the
defiled and the enemies to distort it… or to enable legitimacy
for the existence of Jews on this land.” [Al

Promoting hatred and aversion
towards Jews and Israel
Articles
based on lies that portray the Jews and/or Israel as the embodiment
of evil in the world are published regularly in the Palestinian Authority
(PA) media. Israel is depicted as actively afflicting the Palestinians
through the proliferation of disease, including cancer, through the
distribution of contaminated drugs, spoiled food and even repackaging
milk intended for animal use, for Palestinian babies.
The Head of the Palestinian Consumer Protection Association accuses
Israel - in a style reminiscent of the medieval libels of Jews poisoning
wells - that:
“[Israel] floods
our markets with hundreds of thousands of tons of food products
which are unfit for human consumption…the common goal which
stands behind this is the proliferation of disease, weakness, and
slow death in the Palestinian body through indirect means…
Milk, which is designated for fattening calves, is packaged and
smuggled to the Palestinian markets and sold as milk for babies…
The distribution of meat and lamb, which are filled with carcinogenic
hormones is done intentionally…[and they engage in] the penetration
of poisons and filth-ridden products and smuggling them to us. He
[Head of Consumer Protection Association] points to these three
subjects which cause severe disease which destroy the Palestinian’s
body and influence the genetic code and the destruction of the coming
generations, all this in accordance with hard scientific facts…
He pointed to the fact that the children are the main target of
this hostile plan…”

Three
similar libels this month:
A.
Israel was accused by the PA Farmers Association of:
“Distributing medication
and spoiled agricultural materials in the Palestinian markets with
the intention of hitting the agricultural sector, destroying the
crops and endangering the health of the consumers…”
[Al-Ayyam, February 7, 1999]
B. The
PA Minister of Environment:
Headline: The
Occupation is Burying Poisonous Waste near Jenin.”
“Dr. Yussef Abu Sefiyeh, Minister for Environmental Affairs,
uncovered the existence of Israelis, who are dumping the excesses
of the Israeli chemical plants’ poisonous waste into the nature
reserve near the Am Altoth village in the Jenin region. This case,
which exposes the lives of the residents and the Palestinian environment
to danger, is the fourth of its kind during four years of waste
burying. Minister Abu Sefiyeh put full responsibility on the Israeli
government for these dangerous steps, which expose the lives of
the residents to danger...”

[Note:
Palestinian Media Watch contacted Shmuel Brenner, Assistant Director
[Israeli] Environment Ministry, who spoke with Dr. Hamadi, Director
of Environment in the PA. who admitted that it was a Palestinian resident
of Um ul-Tut near Jenin who had buried the waste improperly and promised
a retraction. Yet the next day the story appeared again blaming Israel.]
C. “General Alafifi [Director of
General Intelligence, Gaza] added that there is continuous surveillance
and supervision on the settlements, as the settlements are seen as a
source of corruption, being distributors of spoiled food, drugs, alcoholic
drinks, and the like.”

There is a constant
pattern of depicting Israel as a state of murderers and terrorists:
“Massacre is the
basis of the State of Israel…the details may change but the
acts of massacre continue incessantly as if they were the story
of the Israeli occupation of Palestine. A month doesn’t even
go by without hearing or reading about ‘lately we have begun
to see the pictures’ of new acts of massacre…”

In an article on the
characteristics of the Jews, it is explained to the Palestinian reader
that:
“Corruption is
in the nature of the Jews all over the world, to the point where
only rarely do you find corruption that Jews are not behind. Their
intense love of money and its accumulation is common knowledge,
and the way they get it does not interest them and they are liable
to exercise degradation and the most lowly of methods in order to
achieve their goals…” [Nasser Ahmad,
in Al-Hayat al-Jadida, July 11, 1998]
The false accusations
come to vilify the essence of Israel without differentiating between
periods or governments:
“This [the massacre]
is not a policy of a party, faction, stream or person. This is a
continuing, non-stop system, which has not changed, will not change,
and which was never given up on, whether the power lay with those
called ‘extremists’ of the ‘right wing’
from the Likud party ...or with those who are classified as ‘moderates’
of the Labor party crowd...” [Talal Salman,
Editor, ‘Alsafeer’ Lebanese newspaper, in official PA
daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, January 18, 1999]
A widespread tactic
in the PA media is to use events that indeed occurred as a starting
point, so that the distortions have a basis in reality. For example,
the massacre in the Cave of the Patriarchs was the act of a single
individual yet the PA daily falsely blames the Israeli army, both
of involvement and of repugnant cruelty:
“Soldiers of the
occupation streamed into the mosque, when the shooting stopped and
they began to shoot from their own weapons on those who crowded
around Goldstein, and no one survived…The soldiers opened
fire on people who came to save and help their brothers. The soldiers
ran after the wounded and those helping them right up to the doors
of the hospitals. They killed many of them…”

Similarly, the massacre
of Sabra and Shatilla by Christian Lebanese forces is rewritten into
PA history as a cruel Israeli massacre in minute detail:
“…the Israeli
forces…prepared the scene of the crime by landing battalions
with helicopters…the helicopters shot flares and even followed
up on the execution while the crime was committed…We say that
the Israeli goal was to kill the maximum number of camp residents…
There is no doubt that the Israeli strategic policy is to commit
massacres, not only the massacre of Sabra and Shatilla…”

“…The memory of the painful massacre which was planned
by he who is still serving in the government of the occupation until
this very day, into which came groups of settlers and our enemies
and committed this despicable crime… Heads of children were
cut off and their bodies ripped to pieces, their limbs were dispersed
and the honor of women was violated in front of everyone…
Our enemies still desire the heads of our sons and Palestinian blood
is still being spilled like water. No one was arrested and no one
will be arrested, because the policy which our enemies are implementing
against the Muslims is written in the beginning of our history…”[PA
TV, September 18, 1998]
A similar distortion
was seen this month after an Arab woman was stabbed to death in Jerusalem.
Though the murderer, an Arab who explained he had mistaken her for
a Jew, had already confessed, the PA paper, as well as the PA Deputy
Minister of Religion, blamed the murder on Jews.
“Naila Hamdan
Karain, age 47, of Silwan [in Jerusalem] fell as a martyr in the
neighborhood of Musrara, after being stabbed by an extremist Jew
in the settlement neighborhood [West Jerusalem]...”

Sermon by: Deputy
Minister of Religion,Yussef Juma'a Salame:
“These days we
hear of the murder of our people daily. The crime of the stabbing
of the young woman yesterday in the city Jerusalem, is a link in
the chain of the continuous acts of stabbing against all sectors
of our people. These repeated attacks prove the level of hostility
and hatred against our people who stand in Jerusalem and its environs.”

The Palestinian media
often accuses the Jews of fabricating stories about attacks on Jews
for profit. Even on the subject of the Holocaust and the persecution
against the Jews, the Palestinian media shows no aversion to lying:

Center for eternalizing the Holocaust and the Lies”
Correct Answer: “YAD VA’SHEM” [Israel’s
national Holocaust memorial]
“…The winds blew in their [the Jews] favor, when the
persecution against them by the Nazi Hitler started…then the
show began. They began to distribute horrific pictures of mass shooting
being committed against them and to fabricate the shocking story
about gas ovens, in which, according to them, Hitler would burn
them [the Jews]. Newspaper columns began to fill up with pictures
of Jews being cut down by Hitler’s machine guns, and of Jews
being led to the gas ovens. In these pictures they concentrated
on women, children and the elderly. And they took advantage of this
in order to arouse admiration for them, while they demand a monetary
compensation, grants and contributions from all over the world.
The truth is that the persecution of the Jews is a false fable that
the Jews called the disaster of the “Holocaust”…and
took advantage of it in order to arouse admiration.”

“I believe that Israel convinced the world of the lie of the
massacre and racism, which they [the Jews] were exposed to in Germany,
and gained [the support of] the world public opinion…”
[Dr. Samir Shahade, General Secretary of the Desk
of the National Institutions, Al-Hayat Al-Jadeeda, December 8, 1998]
One columnist explained the existence of anti-Semitism and persecution
of the Jews as justified acts of defense against the “evil”
of the Jews. In a detailed report he rationalizes that the anti-Semitism
and persecutions, including the “loss and expulsion”
that the Jews suffered, are “a result of their ugly deeds
and their evil.” [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, November
7, 1998]
2. Erasing Jewish
history; negating the Jewish people’s right to the Land of Israel;
and creating an ancient Palestinian history
The PA media rewrites ancient
history, erasing the Jews from Israel and creating a Palestinian history
in ancient Israel. The main messages of this frequently taught history
is the denial of the existence of the Jewish nation – “Judaism…is
not a nation at all” - [“Palestine –
History and Heritage”, PA TV, Nov. 3, 1998], the denial
of the Jewish religion – “Judaism is not a religion in
the full sense of the word…the Religion of Moses… apparently
it is the Islamic religion”. Jewish history in the Land of Israel
– “The children of Israel...lived in Yemen…Mount
Sinai is Mount Sinin in Yemen…all these events [in the Bible]
did not occur in Palestine…”[ibid. May
26, 1998]; the denial of the connection between the Jews today
and earlier Jews, to the point that “should we make a calculation
of the original Jews or Children of Israel today, it would be like
a dot in the sea, as if pouring a cup of water into the sea…”-
[“Palestine – History and Heritage”,
PA TV, Nov. 3, 1998]. The denial of the Hebrew language –
“The new Hebrew, that which the Jews currently use, is not connected
in any way to the ancient Hebrew” [Dr. Ali Mahmud
Abu Amar, lecturer in history and social sciences, Al Ayam, Dec. 4,
1998]. They even take away Jewish authorship of books in the
Bible: “the Song of Songs are songs which were written by the
Syrians…” [ibid].
On the other hand,
they invent an ancient Palestinian history in Israel, turning themselves
into the descendants of the Canaanites and depicting Israel today
as another one of the many conquerors and “it too will pass”:
“…the Palestinian
history has deep roots in this land from five thousand years ago,
some three thousand years before the Common Era during the time
of the Canaanites and Jebusites…The roots of the Palestinian
people are in this blessed land…any occupation of Palestine
and Jerusalem will end, even if takes some time. The present occupation
– there is no doubt - that it too will pass…”

“This
wall [the Western Wall] was built in ancient times by our Canaanite
forefathers…”. [“Palestine –
History and Heritage”, PA TV, November 3, 1998]
“The Palestinians are from Canaanite origin and not from the
Island of Crete…they are a branch of the Canaanites…”[Mustafa
Hamayes, Palestinian National Council, PA TV, August 14, 1998].
In a television broadcast,
a history lecturer fully articulates the new history, ending with
the expectation that Israel “the cancer” will soon disappear:
“Jerusalem
is our holy city from the dawn of history, our forefathers built her…our
forefathers were here generation after generation, and the invaders,
they were erased, anyone who attacked this city or who tried to steal
one stone from her, their fate was like that of the other invaders…there
was no existence in this city aside from the Arab existence, I, as
a historian, challenge: is there a sign of any entity aside from us
on this land? All the false Torah claims, the misleading and the distortion
of history are lies, supported by false claims in order to achieve
settlement colonialism… there was not found in the country one
[ancient Jewish] coin of those that he [the caller] noted…Zionism
planted the settlement plan, and they [Jews] are not at all connected
to the land of prayer, they came from Khazar…, we are not against
Jews as Jews, we are against the theft of our land. Regarding ‘Israel’,
this is a word which indicates tribal gathering, now it is known scientifically
as well, that a homeland of all the [Israeli] tribes was in the Arab
peninsula …[King] David captured “Zion” as his capital,
which still exists today in Asir [in the Arab Peninsula]. Their history
is there… colonialism… ripped apart our land…and
planted the cancer, which will be eliminated one way or another.”

Israel's days are numbered
due to her being a foreign implant in "Palestine":
"The Zionist challenge
remains, and this is the basic conflict that we are struggling with
in an armed struggle ... We are struggling with it on land that
is the historical property of our people, which we have never left
and never severed contact with for thousands of years despite the
clashes with the attackers who resided here as conquerors. Afterwards,
they all left our land and our people remained on their land cleaving
to her. The existence of the state of Israel today, on the land
of Palestine, is nothing but a chapter in the chain of foreign aggression
which, without doubt, will break and lose its power. Our people
are the true and eternal owners of this land according to the laws
of justice, history and truth, and not according to the law of wild
power, distortion and lies with which Netanyahu and the Israeli
extreme right are trying to recruit, with lies and slander in order
to prove to the world the existence of the Jewish [legal] right
to Palestine." [Ahmed Hales, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida,
February 6, 1999]
In a television interview,
Yasser Arafat denies even the presence of the Temple:
Arafat: “The issue of Jerusalem is not only a Palestinian
issue, rather it is a Palestinian, Arab, Muslim and Christian issue:
Interviewer:
"And Jewish?"
Arafat: "No, I will be more exact on this point, the
Jews have Hebron, which for them is holier than Jerusalem. There are
those who say “Temple” etc., all the excavations did not
prove the place of the Temple as they invented. For over 30 years
the place is occupied by them and they did not succeed in bringing
one proof regarding the location of the Temple.”

To counter history,
they teach that Jewish history in Israel is forged:
“…Palestine
belongs to the Palestinian people and Israel is nothing more than
a State which was established on our lands and at our people’s
expense, in order to implement the goals of the West in the Middle
East… Our people’s identity, is rooted in this land
from time immemorial. Therefore they [the Jews] distorted history…”
[Mahmoud Al-Madhun, Editor National Guidance page, Al-Hayat Al-Jadida,
November 1, 1998]
Modern history is also
distorted. Zionism and the establishment of Israel are depicted as
a colonialist anti-Arab scheme, to rid Europe of the Jews and split
the Arab world:
“There
was a simple difference between Hitler and Balfour: the former [Hitler]
did not have colonies to which to send the Jews to and therefore he
annihilated them, while Balfour…[had] colonies and so he sent
the Jews there. Lord Balfour is a Hitler with colonies, while Hitler
is a Balfour without colonies. Both of them wanted to get rid of the
Jews…” [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, December 6,
1998]
“Britain had an interest in creating a foreign human body in
the Middle East and to get rid of the Jewish existence in Europe…”
[Tallal Abu Afifa, Legal Advisor to the Ministry of Youth, PA TV,
Sept. 4, 1998]. “They [the West] stole Palestine and
planted in her the Zionist entity as a colonial plan.”
[PA TV, May 14, 1998]. Moreover, Balfour wanted to send the
Jews to Uganda because he saw that it was an “an ideal place
in which to isolate the Jews and their dreams, and it was a garbage
dump which had enough room for the non-human Semitic waste…”

The rewriting of this
new history is a planned organized effort to deny Israel’s right
to exist. Recently, a senior PA educator defined its purpose:
“…Alzamali
called on all universities and colleges to be active in the writing
of the history of Palestine, and to guard it, and not to enable the
defiled and the enemies to distort it…or to enable legitimacy
for the existence of Jews on this land.”

Conclusions
The message that the PA is sending to its residents:
Israel is a cruel state, aspiring to murder, poison and massacre Palestinians.
Moreover, Israel does not have any right to exist in the Land of Israel,
as the land is defined as “Palestine which was captured in 1948
and 1967” [see PMW report no. 4]. The rights of the Palestinians
“to their Canaanite homeland” is natural and is the embodiment
of justice against “the theft of Palestine”.
These are not the opinions of extremists in the Palestinian Authority
or marginal opinions. These are the opinions that the PA is trying
to instill in the awareness of Palestinian residents. It should be
noted that these messages are not only found in the Palestinian media,
but also are the foundation of the education regarding Jews and Israel
in PA textbooks. [See section on textbooks]
The political implications
to the distortions are far reaching, as expressed in the opinion of
the historian [above] and the television broadcaster’s response:
“Their history
is there [in the Arab Peninsula]…[the colonialism]…ripped
apart our land…and planted the cancer which will be eliminated
one way or another.”

1. PA uses lies
to attack the Anti Incitement Committee.
In response to PA media incitement, a trilateral committee to monitor
incitement was set up as part of the Wye Accords. A member of the
PA Legislative Council attacked the committee as “the most dangerous
[aspect of the Wye accords] due to the fact that it is viewed as touching
upon the national ideology and the national conscience of the Arab
and Palestinian people.” The writer then went on to “prove”
his argument by listing a series of offensive demands that were supposedly
placed on the Palestinians at the committee hearings. The entire list
is false.
“The Israelis insist, while strengthened by pressure from the
American side of the above mentioned committee, on the wiping out
of the words ‘Historical Palestine’ from the history books,
and the words ‘Geographical Palestine’ from the geography
books. They insist on preventing the printing of Koran books in the
areas of the Authority. They insist on punishment for those who distribute
and write things which mention the Nakba [“tragedy”] war
of 1948, or the second Nakba [“tragedy”] war of 1967.”

of the PA delegation to the committee, attacked Israel’s supposed
objective:
“pointing out that the goal of the occupation in raising the

– an intentional misunderstanding, which people are silent about.
But the naked truth – Judaism is not a religion in the full

3. The Jewish plan to control the world, in the spirit of “The
Protocols of the Elders of Zion”.
“Corruption is in
the nature of the Jews all over the world, to the point where only
rarely do you find corruption that Jews are not behind. Their intense
love of money and its accumulation is common knowledge, and the way
they get it does not interest them and they are liable to exercise
degradation and the most lowly of methods in order to achieve their
goals… If we take a look at history, we discover to what degree
the Jews were exposed to loss and expulsion the world over, as a result
of their ugly deeds and their wickedness. This is after their issues
were discovered and their responsibility for the destruction of the

4. The Jews took
control of the world media, changed their real “Shylock”
image, and even fabricated the Holocaust.
“The Jews were the
object of hatred and contempt everywhere, due to their control over
most of the economic resources, on which people’s jobs were
dependent, and the most prominent example for this is the play “The
Merchant of Venice” by the English playwright Shakespeare, in
which Shylock, the merchant, portrays the image of the greedy, crafty
Jew who is evil and loathsome. If so, how did the Jews succeed in
brainwashing the American and European public opinion to change the
image [of the Jew] to an understanding, brave, genius, diligent and
creative person, whom the world looks up to?
There is no escape from saying that the success of the Jews was not
incidental but rather a result of long years of planning and the investment
of enormous efforts in order to achieve the repulsive control over
the world media…The winds blew in their favor, when the persecution
against them by the Nazi Hitler started…then the show began.
They began to distribute horrific pictures of mass shooting being
committed against them and to fabricate the shocking story about gas
ovens, which, according to them, Hitler would burn them [the Jews].
Newspaper columns began to fill up with pictures of Jews being cut
down by Hitler’s machine guns, and of Jews being led to the
gas ovens. In these pictures they concentrated on women, children
and the elderly. And they took advantage of this in order to arouse
admiration for them, while they demand a monetary compensation, grants
and contributions from all over the world. The truth is that the persecution
of the Jews is a false fable that the Jews called the disaster of
the “Holocaust”…and took advantage of it in order
to arouse admiration…the reliable ones among the historians
called on the Jews to bring convincing evidence in order to prove
it. The Historical Studies Association based in Los Angeles announced
a fifty thousand dollar grant to whomever will bring hard evidence
that the Jews were murdered in the gas chambers, but the Jews escaped
to the pressure and accusations of anti-Semitism, and so they quieted
those voices.
And although it is possible that Hitler’s attack against the
Jews hurt them slightly, it also serviced them to the point where
still today they reap the benefits and it was the main door to her
winning the American and European admiration and to realizing their
dream and their plans…
When we survey the news agencies, the newspapers, the journals and
the world television stations, which the Jews control in the West,
it becomes clear to us the extent of their media influence in the
world [and their control] of a number of world news agencies, French
and British newspapers, and among them the Times newspaper which Zionism

citizenship, Robert Murdoch, whose ownership spreads, in addition
to the Times, to three other British tabloids…

on the one hand, to carry out a campaign to beautify the abominable
faces of the Jews, while on the other hand a campaign to dirty the
name of the Arabs..”

5. Israel intends
to attack Al Aksa Mosque and the “Arab character of Jerusalem”.
“An expert Palestinian
researcher warned of the tunnel excavations which the occupation regime
is carrying out under Al-aksa Mosque in the Old City of the occupied
Jerusalem, which aspires to erase the eternally holy Islamic mark,
and this is the beginning of the realization of the Jewish dream,
in the establishment of the so called “Solomon’s Temple”,
in its place ...” [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, September
6, 1998]
“Jewish extremists
held a meeting yesterday in West Jerusalem, in which they discussed
the ways to destroy the Al-aksa Mosque and to establish the so called
Temple in its place.” [PA TV, September 16, 1998]
“[Sheik Salah] warned
that the Jewish groups’ plans to eliminate the Al-aksa Mosque
and to build the Temple in its place, reached advanced stages and
some of them are being implemented now, such as the continuation of
the excavations on the foundations of the Al-aksa Mosque…also,
the show of hostility against the Al-aksa Mosque in a continuous way
such as burning the [Al Aksa mosque] gate” [Al-Hayat
Al-Jadida, December 3, 1998]
6.
Israel and the Israelis are planning murder, genocide, etc.
“We were still children
when Palestine was conquered…since that rainy evening, in the
beginning of the winter of ’48, and during a lifetime, the wound
remains open. The details change but the acts of massacre continue
incessantly as if they are the story of the Israeli occupation of
Palestine. Hardly a month goes by without hearing or reading about
‘lately we have begun to see the pictures of new acts of massacre…’
However, the reality is that the massacres are a clear, political
act in the blood filled history of the Zionist entity…
This is not a policy of a party, faction, stream or person.
This is a continuing, non-stop system, which has not changed, will
not change, and which was never given up on, whether the power lay
with those called ‘extremists’ of the ‘right wing’
from the Likud party and the religious streams, or with those who
are classified as ‘moderates’ of the Labor party crowd
and the streams which are affiliated with the left.

the water… and also flood our markets with hundreds of thousands
of tons of food products which are unfit for human consumption…the
common goal which stands behind this is the proliferation of disease,
weakness, and slow death in the Palestinian body by indirect means
in addition to the direct means such as killing and the confiscation
of lands…the equation is clear and it is that they fixed for
themselves a goal of man and land, and therefore the Zionist movement
acted and still acts to find various ways of oppression and hostility
to eliminate the legal existence of our people on its land…Those
responsible for the factories in the settlements package milk, which
is designated for fattening calves and smuggle it to the Palestinian
markets for sale as milk for babies… the distribution of meat
and lamb, which are filled with carcinogenic hormones is done intentionally…[and
they engage in] the penetration of poisons and filth-ridden products
and smuggling them to us. He [Head of Consumer Protection Association]
points to these three subjects, which cause severe disease which destroy
the Palestinian’s body and influence the genetic code and the
destruction of the coming generations, all this in accordance with
hard scientific facts…he pointed to the fact that the children
are the main target in this hostile plan being carried out against
of people and said: the failure of the Zionists in the expulsion caused
them to try to transfer the equation to another kind of expulsion
and that is the Palestinian expulsion from the land down to the dust

7. Blaming
Israel for Palestinian Terror
The Israeli media often
comment on the refusal of the heads of the PA to condemn Palestinian
terror. In fact, the situation is much worse as the PA media often
goes so far as to blame Israel for the attacks on Israelis. One example:
After the bomb attack at the 'Mahane Yehuda market' in Jerusalem last
November, the PA daily ran a front page - main headline article, accusing
Israel of carrying out the attack :
“Palestinian sources believe that the Israeli Intelligence stands
behind the bombing. these sources estimated that there is a “mole”
of one of the Israeli [intelligence] systems [which stands behind]
the bombing, such as happened in the throwing of two hand grenades
on the bus stations in Beer Sheva a few weeks ago, after which it
was found that the man who carried out the attack, Salem Alsaba, was
recruited by the Israeli intelligence. Circles close to the Alsaba
family said that Salem called his family two days ago from his place
of detention, and this raised wonder in the family due to the fact
that the Israeli authorities do not allow any detainee, for security
reasons, to establish any connections during the interrogation period.
It was relayed that his family refused to speak to him and spoke harshly
with him about his deeds. The sources mentioned that the authority
which was given to Alsaba, confirms what was mentioned at the time
by the PA, which was that the suspicious attack was done to stop the
Wye River talks… Palestinian sources said to the France Press
agency that “the Palestinian security forces have a number of
leads and signs of the existence of an exterior party which stands
behind the last attack and the recent series of attacks, which have
a political goal of confusing the PA and preventing the implementation
of the agreements that they reached with Israel…The recent military
attack that was attributed to the Jihad, is the double suicide attack
in the beginning of 1997 near the Netzarim and Kfar Darom settlements,
after which the National Authorities introduced to the media a man
by the name of Ibrahim Alhalaby, who recruited the two suicide bombers
and who planned the attack. Alhalaby confirmed that he works for the
Israeli intelligence and that he organized this attack according to
their request, in order to create tension in the relations between
the Palestinian Authority and Israel and to stop the implementation
of the agreements signed between them.” [Al-Hayat
Al-Jadida, August 11, 1998, p.1]
Similarly, even though the premeditated stoning attack of an Israeli
vehicle in Elbireh, and the subsequent beating and stoning of the
soldier inside was shown on television around the world, the PA television
afternoon news reported that it was the soldier who fired on the demonstrators
–“the confrontation broke out after the Israeli soldier
fired from his car…”. That night PA TV changed the story
blaming other soldiers: “The soldiers of the occupation fired
bullets and tear gas.” A week later, Arafat had a new version:
“The president [Arafat] said that the soldier made a mistake
in coming close to the demonstrators. He should have stayed away as
did the other cars.” [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, December
8, 1998]
8. Zionism is
defined as a European plan to get rid of the Jews.
“…There was
a simple difference between Hitler and Balfour: the former [Hitler]
did not have colonies to which to send the Jews to and therefore he
annihilated them, while Balfour, his plan conflicted with the Ottoman
Empire, and after Palestine became one of his colonies, and then he
began to send the Jews to her. Lord Balfour is a Hitler with colonies,
while Hitler is a Balfour without colonies. Both of them wanted to
get rid of the Jews and took advantage of the Zionist plan. This plan
began to strengthen gradually, not due to its special strength, rather
due to its overlapping with Imperialism at the peak of its ascent,
and by this overlapping Zionism grabbed for herself an important position
in the defense of the interests of the West in the region [by means
of] ridding Europe of the burden of its Jews…” [Al-Hayat

“Britain had an interest
in creating a foreign human body in the Middle East and to get rid
of the Jewish existence in Europe…and the Zionists also had
an interest in establishing for themselves a homeland in Palestine,
in the framework of these interests Britain succeeded in entering

whose natural tendency to anti-Semitism ruled over his head and heart
