PA Academic on PA TV: Killing of Jews is Mandatory

Introduction
Much media attention has been given in recent weeks to a reported "drop"
in PA incitement. Unfortunately, while there have been some changes in
PA TV, the same hate messages continue to be espoused - just by different
speakers.
For example, world attention has brought
pressure on the PA to change the content of the Friday sermons, in which
religious leaders have repeatedly called for the genocide of Jews. The
PA has not eliminated the message, however, but has merely transferred
it to another framework.
For years, the PA religious establishment
has repeatedly portrayed the killing of Jews as a religious necessity.
Today, PA TV chose to rebroadcast this same call to genocide as a historical
necessity - this time from a senior PA academic rather than from a religious
leader.
Dr. Hassan Khater, founder of the Al-Quds Encyclopedia and a TV
lecturer, cited the identical hadith (an Islamic tradition attributed to
Muhammad) that the religious leaders have used to demand this genocide.
This was part of a lecture focusing on what he described as the war of
the Jews against Palestinian trees.
These were his words quoting the hadith:
"Muhammad said in his hadith, 'The Hour [of Resurrection] will
not arrive until you fight the Jews, [until a Jew will hide behind a rock
or tree] and the rock and the tree will say: O Muslim, servant of Allah,
there is a Jew behind me, come and kill him!'""

The continued teaching that this hadith
applies today could well be a dominant factor driving terror against Israeli
civilians. By depicting redemption as dependent on Muslims killing
Jews, the PA worldview presents this genocide as a religious obligation
and historical necessity - not related to a conflict over borders,
but as something inherent to Allah's world.

Sheik Ibrahim Mudayris in a Friday sermon, PA TV, September 10, 2004:
"The Prophet said the Resurrection will not take place until the
Muslims fight the Jews, and the Muslims kill them. The Muslims will kill
the Jews, rejoice. Rejoice in Allah's Victory. The Muslims will
kill the Jew, and he will hide.
"The Prophet said: 'The Jews will hide behind the rock and tree, and the
rock and tree will say: O servant of Allah, O Muslim this is a Jew behind
me, come and kill him!'
"Why is there this malice? Because there are none
who love the Jews on the face of the earth: not man, not rock, and not
tree - everything hates them. They destroy everything! They destroy the trees
and destroy the houses. Everything wants vengeance on the Jews, on these
pigs on the face of the earth, and the day of our victory, Allah willing,
will come."

The Protocols of the Elders of Zion and Denying Israel's Right to Exist - today on Palestinian Authority Educational TV

Introduction and Background
Palestinian Authority Television cited again this morning the infamous
forgery, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion as an authentic
document. This was part of an educational program, the objectives
of which were to deny the existence of the Jewish nation and to
deny Israel's right to exist.
As background, it should be noted that a foundation
of Palestinian Authority (PA) ideology is that the Jews do not comprise
a nation but only a religious group, and therefore do not have a
right to a national home. This foundation of PA ideology is taught
regularly by educators and political leaders, and was recently reiterated
by the current PA Prime Minister, Ahmad Qurei:
"President Bush said that Israel is a Jewish
state, which is a cause for our concern. This should not have been
said ... What is the meaning of the concept of a Jewish state...
Does this mean that this is a Jewish state, this is Sunni, this
is Shi'ite, this is Alawite, and that one is Christian... These
differences could plunge the region into a whirlpool..."

Today on PA TV, three
senior historians, including the Chairman of the PA Public Library,
and Arafat's Advisor on Education, Dr. Jarir Al-Kidwah, again taught
this delegitimization of Israel's existence with significant elaboration
and detail. Using the denial of Jewish nationhood as a starting
point, they taught that modern Jews have no connection to the Land
of Israel, and the early Zionists were therefore not interested
in returning to Israel. Any country would have satisfied the Jews,
who feared European anti-Semitism. However, it was the Europeans
- Britain in particular - who directed the Jews to Israel, with
two goals:
1. Britain
wanted to control the natural resources of the Middle East, and
by planting a foreign "cancer" they could control the
Arab states.
2. The Jews were such a detriment to European society
that sending the Jews to the Middle East was an ideal way to "rid
Europe of the burden of its problematic Jews."
As part of today's discussion,
a historian explained that The Protocols of the Elders of Zion,
the Russian forgery that was presented as the Jews' secret plan
to rule the world, played a role at the first Zionist Congress in
1897. The PA often teaches that Zionist ideology is based on The
Protocols.
The following is the
transcript from today's "history" program, followed by
two items from PMW archives that document the repetitive nature
of this de-legitimization of Israel in PA teaching:
Today's "history"
program on PA TV
Dr. Riad Al-Astal, history lecturer at Al-Azhar University in Gaza:
"In these circumstances
[of European nationalism] what is known as the Zionist Renaissance
developed, and the seeds of what is called The Protocols of
The Elders of Zion appeared at the end of the 18th century.
They are the Protocols that were presented in the Basel Congress
in Switzerland [the First Zionist Congress in 1897]"
Dr. Jarir Al-Kidwah
[Head of the PA Public Library]:
"Theodore Herzl,
the founder of political Zionism, did not believe in Judaism. He
strongly opposed anyone who claimed Judaism was a religion... He
believed that the Jews around the world were one nation just because
they were Jews... [and] here is the danger."
Dr. Issam Sisalem [Senior
Lecturer at Islamic University in Gaza and Educational TV host]:
"The Jews lived
in isolated areas, in ghettos in Poland and in Russia. They were
the remains of the Khazars ... with no connection to our land and
the history of our land [Palestine]... and even those whomade this
name name have no history or connection to this land."
[He then explains that as a result of the pogroms in Russia the
Zionist wanted Jews to emigrate.]
"At that time, Britain wanted to plant a cancer [in the Middle
East to control it]. It did not occur to them [the Zionists] that
Palestine would be theirs. They wanted ... any Homeland. Our people
wisely sensed this, as they planted on the land and lived in peace
and security, continuing a twelve thousand year journey on this
land. They sensed the danger, the moment the first settlement appeared.
The first settlement appeared in 1842, when Moses Montefiore bought
it in Jaffa under a false name, and they [the Zionists] would use
French false names and others."
Moderator:
"Dr. Riad, the year
1897 is considered a crossroad ... and we regard this date as a
black one in our lives..."
Al-Astal:
"... the Zionist Movement
began at the Basel Congress to plan the exploitation of the powers'
struggle and the struggle of Europe over the Middle East... The
European states, of course welcomed this idea and were striving
to plant Israel as a functional state, which will serve the imperialism,
and as a bridgehead for ruling over the world, the Near East and
there - from the Middle East and the Far East ... the international
conspiracy was bigger than us [the Palestinian People]."
Sisalem:
"Britain wanted to plant
the Jews herein order to protect the Suez Canal... Max Nordau, the
deviser, the planner of the idea [of settling the Jews in Argentine,
Italy, Mozambique, Angola, Al-Arish and so on] at the Basel Congress,
decided that they [the Jews] will immigrate to here [to Palestine],
and that is why they clothed the issue in a fictitious religious
and false [manner]...
"Britain decided to plant in this land a foreign, secluded entity
- a cancer - in order to drive a wedge between the [Arab] nation...
"...There are two major elements for which Britain and the other
European states were striving: the first element was to get rid
of the Jews, who were known as those who provoke civil wars, disturbances,
and financial crises in Germany, in France and in other European
states. Regarding the second point ... it is: the European plan,
the British-French plan ... to torpedo any hope for an Arab unity."
[Speaking of a battle in which 150,00 British soldiers were defeated
by the Turks]: "... alongside the British army there was a fighting
Jewish regiment - this cancer began with them, [in] this land to
which they have no connection..."

Comment
Even as the PA purports
to embrace the peace process, it is clear that the PA leadership,
including Prime Minister Ahmad Qurei, continues to refuse to recognize
Israel as a legitimate state. Indeed, PA leaders and educators rely
on known distortions of history to teach the Palestinian people
that Israel does not have the right to exist.

PA Daily: Israel is Strangling the World
November 9, 2003
Introduction
The doctrine that Jews endanger the entire world has been a
common theme of anti-Semites throughout history. Often they
create a specified threat - as in the "poison wells"
libel of the Middle Ages. This month we heard from
Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Muhammad that, "Jews
rule this world by proxy - they get others to fight and
die for them."
At other times Jews are depicted as a universal threat,
as a larger than life evil threatening humanity.
A cartoon in today's official Palestinian daily,
Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, makes this last point, as a
Magen David is depicted strangling the entire world.

Dehumanizing Israelis in Official PA Daily
October 9, 2003
Introduction
Dehumanizing Israelis and Jews, including depicting them as predatory
animals is common in the PA print media. In recent days the PA
has increased these animal-like portrayals. The following three
depictions of Israelis as wolf, alligator and worm all appeared
this week in the official PA daily Al-Hayat Al-Jadida.

Introduction
This Friday's sermon on PA TV is indicative of
one of the most loathsome aspects of Palestinian Authority ideology -
its vicious racism and anti-Semitism.
According to PA religious ideology,
the Jews' essence includes numerous inherent evils, as follows:
"Allah
described them [Jews] in His Book [as being] characterized by conceit, pride,
arrogance, rampage, disloyalty and treachery ... [and] deceit and cunning ...
for which Allah transformed them to monkeys and pigs."
According to this message, Jews are "trickery, plotting and treachery, and ideological
terrorism..." and are the "cursed enemies of Allah; curse
upon curse up to Judgment Day."
Jews' behavior, it is taught, has always been evil:
"They coveted, and they covet still. They killed, and they kill
still. They betrayed, and betray still. They spilt blood, and they
spill blood still... They have a single common denominator: enmity
of Islam and Muslims, enmity of the bearers of truth...
"We must know
the true situation and be on our guard, for our enemy does not distinguish
between the mighty and the dependent, between big and small nor between
the aged and the nursing baby."
Muslims therefore have a special role to torment the Jews:
"We shall battle them and wage jihad against them...
"Allah loves those who battle for Him in one line...
O servants of Allah,
be you the ones by whom Allah tortures the Jews with harsh torment."
The Jews' future has been determined for ultimate punishment:
"[Allah] will not resurrect them [Jews] until Judgement Day, and
then they will be tortured [with] harsh torture."
This Palestinian
racism is particularly dangerous because it is portrayed as the will
of Allah. The hatred of Jews thus receives not only the stamp of divine
approval but also is transformed into obligatory religious practice.
A religious Palestinian Muslim - virtually the entire population - is
thus faced with the obligation to hate Jews and to fight them or go
against the will of Allah.
The following is from this week's official Friday sermon on PA TV:
"Praise unto Allah, Who cursed our enemies; curse upon curse up to Judgement
Day. And He has cursed them as well through the words of His prophets
and emissaries, may they rest in peace...
"It is He [Muhammad] who warned us of the Jews and of the Jews'
nature in the clearest of terms. He battled them and waged jihad against
them after they attempted to kill the call [to Allah] and to assassinate
the Prophet [Muhammad]...
"Their attempts were repeated more than once; but Allah, Who
said of the Prophet, 'Allah will protect you from man,'
shielded His Prophet from their trickery, plotting and
treachery, and their ideological terrorism...
"The Prophet, upon emigrating from Mecca to Medina where Allah
granted him victory over his enemies, wrote a document between himself
and the residents of Medina, among them Jews...
"The Prophet and the
Muslims upheld this contract. The Jews, however, as is typical of
them and as Allah described them in His Book, characterized by conceit,
pride, arrogance, disloyalty and treachery ... 'Each time they
forge a treaty a group within them breaches it.' [Sura 3]...
"And they coveted the Muslims for the Prophet not having come
from among them. They coveted, and they covet still. They killed,
and they kill still. They betrayed, and betray still. They spilt
blood, and they spill blood still. They ignited and still ignite the
flames of war. And each time they ignite the flame of war, Allah extinguishes
it. And still, they light it up...
"They have a single common denominator;
enmity of Islam and Muslims, enmity of the bearers of truth, enmity
of the sons of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, enmity of the bearers of the historical
and religious truth in this good, blessed land.
"...Allah lifted Mount Sinai over them and commanded that they
bow down, and they bowed on their left eyebrows while, with their
right eyes, they looked at the mountain. Note the deceit and cunning.
And therefore it [violence and crime] is not an exception to their
character or their nature, for which Allah transformed them to monkeys
and pigs.
"...Then Allah threatened them with a promise [of punishment]
which remains valid until Allah will conquer the world and its people.
And if shall be just in the eyes of your Lord, He will not resurrect
them until Judgement Day, and then they will be tortured [with] harsh torture.
"Indeed, your Lord is quick to punish and is forgiving and merciful.
O servants of Allah, be you the ones by whom Allah tortures the
Jews with harsh torment, this through your unity... This will only
come to pass through unity, based on Allah's, may He be exalted,
words, '...Indeed Allah loves those who battle for Him in one
line...' [from the Koran].
"...Our enemies do not adhere, as they do not commit now to any
contract and to any accord. This is their tradition, this their habit,
this is their nature. They battle us based on untrue faith...
"We must know the true situation and be on our guard, for our
enemy does not distinguish between the mighty and the dependent, between
big and small nor between the aged and the nursing baby. They carry
on according to their own point of view, based on their untrue faith,
which is comprised of license upon license upon license. Moreover,
they believe they will become more united the more they spill our
blood. We should, then, be on our guard, understand our Islam properly
and prepare as we should for Ramadan...
"Allah render us victorious over the devils and demons and over
our submission to them...
"Allah render us victorious over the Jews and those who side
with them!
"Allah render us victorious over the Jews and those who side
with them!
"Allah render us victorious over the Jews and the patrons of
their arrogance!
"Allah unite our ranks and raise our flag!
"Allah render victory upon Islam and Muslims!"

PA Religious Sermon: Afflicting Jews is Muslim destiny
December 11, 2002
The promotion
of anti-Jewish and anti-Israel hatred continued to be a significant
theme of Palestinian television programming during the month of Ramadan.
During a televised sermon, Jews were referred to as "cursed,
... the brothers of monkeys and pigs, with a stream of curses that
will continue until the Resurrection..."
Moreover, attacking
and afflicting Jews was presented as part of the destiny Muslims and
Arabs have to fulfill, as a religious obligation from Allah; "Allah
loves those who fight on his behalf... Allah said against the
Jews ... 'your Lord has declared that He will surely send against
them until the Resurrection, those who will afflict them with
terrible torment..." Traditional Islam has interpreted this
to mean that Muslims are the ones who will torment the Jews until
Resurrection .
The
following are selections from this sermon
"Praise
be to Allah, who has cursed the brothers of monkeys and
pigs, with a stream of curses that will continue until the Resurrection
of the dead. He has warned us against their evil and their arrogance,
and has said, 'You will find that the most brazen among mankind,
with hatred towards the believers, are the Jews and the Idolaters.'
[Koran, Surah 81:5]
"It is not foreign to them to shed our blood. They murder
and slaughter us, demolish our homes, and destroy everything that
is important to us...
"The Jews are Jews, and we are forbidden
to forget their character traits even for a moment, even for a blink
of an eye. O Servants of Allah! The Jews are those who tried
to murder your Prophet in order to expunge the Call [to Islam]. It
is no wonder that it has been legitimized [for them] to kill and slaughter
us...
"Our enemies are waging a war against us, against Islam
and the Muslims in particular, against those who demand their rights,
and against any Muslim who seeks to hold his head up. They are trying
to subdue us with hard oppression. Such are the Jews, who are fighting
against us during Ramadan and our peaceful festival, and also during
the holy months, because they are Idolaters, heretics, whose faith
is false. While we are the believers in the truth and in the true
faith ... Allah loves those who fight on his behalf...
"Allah
said against the Jews and the Idolaters, 'your Lord has declared
that he will surely send against them until Resurrection, those
who will afflict them with terrible torment...'
"Prayer and blessing to the imam of the jihad fighters, Muhammad,
who waged a jihad against the Jews, and a significant jihad. He warned
us, in strongest terms, against them. He said, after he expelled them
from Arabia, 'two religions will not be here together...'
"It is not unusual for the Jews, nor uncharacteristic of their
traits, or their ancestry, or their wild behavior, what they are doing
... slaughter after slaughter, invasion after invasion this has
been the custom of the Jews throughout the generations and the ages.
This is especially so when the Muslims are united and seek their full
rights, since they are the ones with the Truth and the Jews
have Falsehood."

Hatred of Jews - an integral part of Palestinian ideology
February 11, 2002
The following two items, the first from a televised religious sermon
and the second from a Palestinian daily, are examples of the anti-Semitism
common in Palestinian broadcasts and texts.
1. "...The Jews tried to kill Muhammad many times, with poison
and with magic, and by throwing stones at him, and by all types of
assassinations. He warned us about the Jews, and about the cunning
of the Jews...
"He told us about the character of the Jew, in the book
of Allah [i.e. the Koran] and in the Traditions of the Prophet [i.e. the Hadith], so that we would beware
of them at every moment. And we know how to deal with the Jews.
"...Say to those who believe not [i.e. the Jews], say to those who believe
not, act according to your power, for we too are acting! And wait!
For we too, shall wait... Wait for your graves! Wait for the
final battle...!
"O Jews! ... We will act to restore our rights...! You
are usurpers! Your arrogance will end one of these days...!
"[The Jew's] aim everywhere is to spread mischief
through the earth and destroy crops and cattle. Allah does not love
such mischief.
"[The Jews] destroyed everything - the crops, the seeds, and the birds,
to the point that the environment itself is oppressed by the Jews...!
"Allah, deal harshly with the Jews and those who aid them...!
"Allah, destroy them through their own stratagems...!
"Allah, render us victorious over the Jews and those who support them...!"
