Above and beyond the steady anti-American hatred promoted by the Palestinian Authority (PA) leaders for years, they seem to have a special penchant for hating Condoleezza Rice. Some of the attacks have included expressions of racial hatred, as in an article this week referring to Rice as a "raven" and a previous article that referred to her as "the colored... the dark skinned... the black lady." [see PMW Bulletin]

In another racist  article attacking Condolezza Rice, the PA daily referred to her as the ”black woman” [three times], the “black spinster” and continues that he even considered the term “black widow” but rejected it. Her father is called the "black clergyman” [who filled her head with Bible stories] and Colin Powell is the “black man”, the “black gentleman” and even the “brave and moderate black.”

All appeared in the official PA daily, then controlled by Arafat, today under Mahmoud Abbas.

This week a cartoon mocked her hope for the birth of a new Middle East by drawing Rice pregnant with a monkey.

In addition, PA society is orchestrating demonstrations, children's activities, and hateful displays all personally attacking Rice. The PA daily published pictures of demonstrators with posters of Rice drinking blood dripping from the picture of dead babies and saying, "I need more blood." 



Another showed an anti Rice protest of the PA Children's Parliament, which displayed an American flag with the words in English and Arabic "Murderer- Rice [Ryse-lit] go to Hell". Condoleezza Rice's picture appears on the flag adjacent to a picture of a dead child while children lay on the ground simulating dead children.
This appeared prominently on the back page in the official PA daily Al Hayat Al Jadida controlled by Mahmoud Abbas' office.

Also this week was an article in the same official daily entitled Condoleezza-Stan written by the paper's editor in chief attacking Rice for American policy, which the PA charges, is intentionally designed to promote war and US involvement, and not peace. The newspaper gave prominent coverage to an anti Rice demonstration where the demonstrators demand she "get out" and "return to where she came from."

The following are the latest personal attacks in articles and graphics directed at Condoleezza Rice:

"The masses and the activists in Ramallah… received the visit (of Condoleezza Rice) with denunciation and condemnation.A general strike brought life to a halt, at a time when anger is exploding in marches and demonstrations... Signs and slogans in Arabic and English called Rice a terrorist and a child murderer... and they told her to get out...

The street which is mobilized against American policy, did not wait for Rice's words to the president (Machmud Abbas), for the protestors demand she go back to where she came from, after describing her as a "raven" who brings only destruction."

But what happened after that was embarrassing and astonishing, especially what happened with the dark complexioned lady, or, more accurately: black, the National Security Advisor ... What compounds the astonishment is that the Black Lady always makes a point, whether the opportunity presents itself or not … especially when comparing her stupid positions with Albright's, who, in her day, proved she had a greater sense of international responsibility, and was less aggressive than this pitiful woman who has dealt a blow to the image of the Black-American in the eyes of the vast majority of the world's inhabitants."

Murder, martyrdom and blood libels are themes of Al Manar TV station
attacked by Israel

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) on Thursday condemned Israel for bombing the Hizbullah TV station Al-Manar, saying, "The bombing of Al-Manar is a clear demonstration that Israel has a policy of using violence to silence media it does not agree with." [IFJ General Secretary Aidan White, July 14, 2006, IFJ Web site]

To clarify to PMW subscribers, Al Manar television broadcasts not only material that Israel "does not agree with," but some of the most loathsome hate broadcasting in the world, which we are surprised the IFJ would condone. This has included using cartoons to encourage children to seek death as Martyrs, presenting Jews using Christian children's blood for Matzah as factual, and presenting the killing of Israel's Jews as God's will.

Jesus the Palestinian In Palestinian Authority ideology

The cartoon in today's Al Quds depicts a Palestinian and an Iraqi being crucified on the same cross. This expresses a common Palestinian motif, found in both text and cartoons, that depicts Palestinians as Jesus, and Jesus as a Palestinian. Palestinian historical revisionism
Historical revision is a backbone of Palestinian political and academic behavior, as the leaders attempt to create a separate "Palestinian Arab" history and identity for themselves, distinct from the general Arab and Islamic history. "Palestinian" Arabs are a very recent creation, and did not exist before the advent of PLO terror in 1965. Note, for example, that under UN resolution 194 in 1948, refugees were not called "Palestinian Refugees," relating to a national identity, but were called "Palestine Refugees," referring to geography - from where they came.

Jesus was Palestinian, the Palestinians are Jesus
One aspect of this attempt to create a Palestinian history is to present Jesus, who according to Christian scriptures was a Jew (Judean) living in the land of Judea-Israel, as a Palestinian. (In fact the name was changed to Palestine 136 years after Jesus' s death as part of Rome's plan to cut the Jews' ties to their Land of Israel.)

Jesus has even been presented by Palestinians as the "the first Palestinian Shahid – Martyr for Allah," [Al-Hayat Al-Jadida, January 17, 2005] applying to Jesus Islamic theology that evolved centuries later. On a culture program on Palestinian TV, a Palestinian artist depicted Israeli soldiers arresting Jesus, and explains that Jesus symbolizes the Palestinians.

The following are some of these examples identifying Jesus as a Palestinian:

  1. “We must not forget that (Jesus) Messiah, may peace be upon him, is Palestinian, the son the Mary the Palestinian, who is sanctified by hundreds of millions of believers in this world.”

    The flip side of turning Jesus into the Palestinians is the turning of Palestinians into Jesus.

Misappropriating Jesus into Palestinian Islamic tradition allows the image of the Crucifixion to become a Palestinian symbol, which they then use to portray themselves and other Muslims as victims of Israel.

Seducing children to martyrdom

As Israel enters the northern Gaza Strip, there are signs that the Palestinian Authority plans to renew the tactic of sending children to the front lines as human shields to obstruct the IDF. PA TV is again broadcasting music videos designed to brainwash young children into seeking death as shahids - martyrs for Allah. Shahada-promoting music videos were first broadcast thousands of times on Palestinian TV from 2000 through 2004.

One of the most sinister of these clips was broadcast twice last week, according to our research after a three-year absence. The clip features a child actor playing the most famous Palestinian child martyr, Muhammad al-Dura - whose death in a crossfire was broadcast to the entire world - calling to other Palestinian children to literally follow him to Child Martyrs' Heaven.
"I am waving not to part but to say, 'Follow me,'" is Dura's invitation on the TV screen.

The children watching this video are then shown what awaits them if they join Dura in death. The video follows the child actor - "Dura" - joyously frolicking in heaven. He romps on the beach, plays with a kite and runs toward a Ferris wheel. The children are being told that death in conflict with Israel will bring them into a child's paradise. Muhammad al-Dura is already in this paradise, tranquil and fun-filled. This call to children to seek death, coming from the child who has turned into a Palestinian hero, and broadcast to their children by PA TV, is one of the most odious examples of exploitation of children by the Palestinian Authority. The words sung by the popular singer Aida are as insidious as the pictures. The earth is described as yearning for the children's death - "its thirst quenched by the gush of blood flowing from the youthful body."

A SECOND music video rebroadcast after years of absence, opens with a girl witnessing the cold-blooded murder of her mother. The child then sings for five minutes about how she misses her mother, including the repeating refrain: "If you can't come to me, I can go to you."

The Al Dura clip was first broadcast in December 2000. It was one of dozens of PA TV clips targeting children that portrayed shahada as "sweet" and idyllic. This tactic was exceedingly effective for the Palestinian Authority. As children went to the front lines to try to copy Dura, the IDF had great difficulty aiming at gunmen who were firing from behind the children and using them as human shields. In addition, when children were killed by either side, the Palestinians used them effectively for propaganda purposes. And indeed Israel was universally condemned for these deaths.

This clip was removed in the fall of 2003, after we showed it at a hearing in the US Senate and drew outrage from US senators. Sen. Hillary Clinton attacked it a "horrific child abuse," and Sen. Arlen Specter denounced it as "civilization abuse."

The reason for its sudden rebroadcast now, after three years, seems clear: The PA learned a long time ago that images of dead children are an ideal way of manipulating public opinion against Israel. Images of children running up to tanks and of children's funerals are precisely what the PA used so successfully in the past. It is apparently planning to revive this tactic if Israel moves deeper into Gaza in search of terror leaders.

Societies prepare for battle in different ways. Some focus on military preparations, while others focus on prayer. For the Palestinian Authority, battle preparation means encouraging their children to leave their homes for the front lines and to seek death

PA television airs clip encouraging
children to become shaheeds

This week, Palestinian television reprised, after a three-year absence, a clip featuring Palestinian child Mohammed a-Dura, calling to other children to join him in a shaheed heaven for children.
The dramatic heart-wrenching footage of a-Dura, shot dead in crossfire in a clash between Israeli and Palestinian forces in the Gaza Strip in the beginning of the intifada in September 2000, was broadcast around the world.

"Palestinian Media Watch" reported on the television clip on Saturday, and announced, "The Palestinian Authority is once again airing video clips designed to influence the behavior of young children and to make them seek deaths as shaheeds."
"The clip, which caused much controversy when it first aired, was taken off the air in the fall of 2003, after Palestinian Media Watch director Itamar Marcus, presented the clip at a U.S. Senate hearing. Following the hearing, senators slammed the clip and criticized it as "horrifying abuse of children."

In the clip, a child portraying a-Dura is peacefully playing in heaven, and calls to other children, "follow me." The popular singer Aida performs the song in the clip, which describes how the earth longs for the deaths of children, saying, "How pleasant is the smell of the earth whose thirst is quenched by blood pouring out of young bodies."

Another clip that aired this week after a long absence depicts a young girl witnessing her mother's murder and then singing about how she misses her mother. She sings, "If you can't come to me, I can come to you."

Palestinian Media Watch reported that the 2000-2003 Palestinian television campaign to recruit young children was so effective, that 70 to 80 percent of Palestinian children during that time wanted to die as shaheeds, according to three separate polls.

Marcus fears that the "sudden and surprising reprisal of the a-Dura clip, calling upon children to join him in a playground in shaheed children's heaven, may be only the first of many steps in a wide campaign designed to recruit children for the cause."

At a US Senate Hearing in October 2003, Palestinian Media Watch director Itamar Marcus presented evidence of the Palestinian Authority’s indoctrination of children to aspire to “heroic” death as Shahids - Martyrs for Allah. Immediately thereafter, after widespread political and media condemnation both in print and on television, most PA TV clips that directly taught children to seek heroic Shahada -Martyrdom for Allah- were removed.

Now, after nearly three years, the PA has suddenly started rebroadcasting the Al Dura in Paradise video. The clip features a child actor playing Muhammad Al Dura, whose death in a crossfire in 2000 was broadcast to the entire world, calling on children to join him in Paradise. In Child-Martyr Paradise, Al Dura is playing with kites and Ferris wheels, presenting an ideal children's world that is designed to attract young naive children. And it opens with the words from Al Dura to the living children: "I am waving not to part but to say: 'Follow me'."

There are numerous reasons for the sudden encouragement now of children to seek heroic death. The PA, has its image blackened by the kidnapping of soldier Gilad Shalit, the killings of soldiers and the continuous missile barrage on southern Israel. Certainly the PA wants to reposition itself as the victim, something that they successfully achieved in the past by sending children to combat zones, and achieving their goal through dead and injured Palestinian children to report to the media.

As Israel re-enters the Gaza Strip to search for terrorists and the kidnapped Israeli soldier, the sudden encouragement of children to seek death indicates the PA is in all likelihood returning to this previously successful tactic of using children as human shields for terrorists. It makes it more difficult for Israeli soldiers to fight terrorist, and it creates ideal photo opportunities of children armed only with stones, “bravely” confronting heavily-armed soldiers.

Children are taught that the short cut to both glory and fun is to follow Al Dura to heaven. Some of these children inevitably will be caught in the crossfire, PA leaders will rush to the media to publicly mourn the children they have so deceitfully sent to their deaths, and Israel will once again be condemned.
